These are a few of my favorite things (of fall)

In an effort to be a more active blogger/instagram abuser, I have decided to take on a photo + journal challenge for the month of October. I highly doubt I will be posting a journal to correspond with each daily photo, but I still look forward to more consistent blog postings. I found the challenge through Pinterest (embarrassing) and can’t wait to get started! The first prompt is “My favorite things of fall”. I don’t plan to attempt a challenge quite like this again, but I love the spirit of a “my favorite things…” blog and hope to continue with similar posts in the future.

Fall is probably my favorite season. I’ve spent my entire life in Georgia, and can say with authority that there is nothing quite like that first cool autumn day after a summer full of nothing but heat. I love the beauty of the changing colors outside, and going out of my way to step into piles of fallen leaves like the Adult I am. I could ramble on and on forever, but I’ll cut myself short and create a more concise list below:

  1. Thanksgiving
I know some people feel like Thanksgiving is one of the worst holidays, but I love it. My huge family has never shied away from a celebration, be it birthday or holiday or simply a Sunday afternoon. But Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays, particularly because it is such a family based day. I can’t think of a better way to spend the day with my family; a whole day where we are feasting on a glorious meal together and considering all the things we are thankful for. I used to hate the way my mom would make us go around the table reciting at least one thing we were grateful for, but now I see the value in the tradition. I chose to post a picture of myself and my sisters from last year’s Thanksgiving for this reason.
  2. Having a legitimate reason to wear scarves, boots, and sweaters
What else can I say? I recently wore a scarf with a tshirt and felt ridiculous the entire day, but I did it for love. I’m dying to break out my accessories deemed appropriate for colder weather only. I probably own far too many of these items for a southern climate, but I’m not terribly concerned.
  3. The Georgia National Fair
Or any fair, really. It’s nice to have an excuse to eat delicious yet terrible food every now and then, and Fair Food is definitely worth the wait. I spent so many Octobers competing in various fair-related events such as the soap carving and sandwich contest (yes, really) and submitting baked goods in for the promise of a cash prize and ribbon award. I consider myself fortunate to have grown up with the Perry fair practically in my backyard, but I love visiting other fairs and experiencing them through my friend’s eyes.
  4. This Fall-inspired mix I discovered awhile back.
With artists like Alexi Murdoch and Josh Ritter on this mix, it’s a perfect nod to crisper days. I find it nearly impossible not to wistfully think of fall every time I hear “Old Pine” by Ben Howard. Having a soundtrack to my favorite season is pretty neat, though.
  5. Pumpkin flavored everything!
Sorry, not sorry. I relish the days when the Pumpkin Spice Latte is a menu item at Starbucks, I devour pumpkin bread and force everyone to eat my ‘traditional’ pumpkin pie that I made well after Thanksgiving because I failed to make it on the actual day. Yes.

Five of my favorite things of fall seems like a good enough place to start with this photo + journal challenge! Feel free to make your own post detailing what you love about fall!
