Music Theory

Do you ever wonder why some music sticks with us?

It could be as simple as a really great melody or lyrics that are easy to remember. Maybe it has something to do with the nostalgia linked to the first time you heard it.

In my case, it’s often the lyrics. Some lines just stand out more than others.

Here are a few of my favorites…

Where you are to where you want to be
And you’ll get nowhere

– Uncharted by Sara Bareilles

This is my number one Sara Bareilles song, but this particular line is really meaningful to me. I love a good pity party as much as the next gal, but wallowing in self-pity rarely gets you far.

I scream at sunsets
Give applause to what I can’t control
Then somehow laugh at how the moon divides an ocean solar
I wanna be that ocean
I want to shine like that

– Blue Skies by Blue October

Who doesn’t want to shine like an ocean? Come on. But seriously, this bit of lyrics feels like the perfect example of life to me.
